WELLESLEY GIRLS SOFTBALL serves our community by offering high quality, inclusive softball programs that promote the girls’ development as softball players and their enjoyment of a healthy and social activity. We introduce appropriate levels of competition as the girls get older, but our program’s emphasis remains on inclusion, skill development, well-being, and fun.
Regardless of where your daughter falls on the ability spectrum -- from a beginner just looking for something active and fun to do with friends, to an advanced player who aspires one day to play in high school/college, or anywhere in between -- we welcome her in our program. We value and aim to meet the needs of all girls, regardless of their experience and goals.
SPRING: Our principal season, we offer programs for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.
SUMMER: We offer programs for 4th through 12th grades.
FALL: We have programs for 2nd through 12th grades
Our recreational programs are open registration and, through the elementary and middle school years, we welcome girls who have never played before. At the older levels, we offer tryout-based tournament teams for girls who are looking to supplement their recreational participation with more competitive challenge.
Our recreational teams are coached by parent volunteers. Our instructional clinics are often run by high school players, a special part of the program. We also make extensive use of professional coaching (although coaches of outside club teams that draw from our player pool may not coach our teams). All adult coaches must be CORI-checked annually. Coaches are expected to be models of supportive, positive coaching.
As softball is a highly social sport, we do school-based teams at the elementary school levels (although sometimes individual schools need to be split between two teams for balancing). We try to accommodate requests for friend or coach pairings, if noted in the registration form.
Girls are expected to have their own glove. Many girls bring their own helmet and bat (and, for older levels, fielder’s mask), but we have loaners available for girls who do not.
We take pride in our town’s lovely softball fields and do our part to keep them in good shape.
We are part of Wellesley Youth Baseball and Softball and overseen by the WYBS board and softball committee. All programs are expected to cover direct costs and contribute to overhead. As we try to keep registration fees affordable, we rely on sponsorships and gifts to make ends meet -- and to fund important “extras” like professional instruction.
Financial hardship should not prevent a girl from playing softball. Requests for fee waivers or reductions should be directed to the WYBS administrator ([email protected]). All inquiries are confidential.
We are not a finished product and welcome feedback on all aspects of our programs.
