    ROOKIE LEAGUE - SPRING 2024

This league is for any child currently in Kindergarten and any PreK child who will turn 5-years-old on or before 8/31/24.

    • Practices: One practice a week scheduled by the coach
    • Games: Sundays / 12:30pm - 2pm with assistance from Terriers Sports
    • Format: Tee Ball with introduction to Coach Pitch
    • Rookie Baseball Season: End of April to Mid-June (no games Memorial Day Weekend)

The goal of our Rookie baseball program is to provide an enjoyable setting for children to have fun learning basic baseball skills and to begin to appreciate the game. We do our best to keep the teams school based, but it is not always possible as we do group by age. (4 & younger 5-year olds together and older 5 & 6-year-olds together)

The Sunday sessions are about 90 minutes long. Teams are split into small groups and coached the basics (hitting off a tee, easy fielding and throwing drills, baserunning, sliding, etc.) in a super fun atmosphere. Games are played against other teams and players are moved around into different positions and no scores are kept. The atmosphere is low-key and the emphasis is on FUN.

Teams are formed in March and players are notified by coaches by the end of March.

Players will be provided with a jersey & hat. They should bring their own glove, bat, and helmet. They are not required to wear baseball shoes or pants. If you need assistance or have questions about purchasing any equipment, please email us at wellesleyybs@gmail.com

Parents are always welcome to help out! (but must fill out a 2024 CORI form)

WYBS is excited to offer Raiders Spring Travel Baseball for the 2023 season for U9, U10 and U11 age levels. Like Summer Travel Baseball, this program is intended for more dedicated players seeking an opportunity to compete against all-star caliber teams from nearby towns. The season will run from early April to early June and consist of 9 regular season practices, and 9 competitive travel games on Friday evenings. Home games will be played at Reidy field. Away games will be played against nearby towns, typically within a 30 minute drive.

    Team Structure:
Raiders is a competitive baseball program for dedicated players. Rosters will be limited to 12 players per team and we will hold pre-season tryouts if more than 12 sign up. Please refer to the Little League International Age tables for eligibility.

    Program Cost:
The total cost of $125 to cover the cost of the program, including uniforms.

    Town Baseball Requirement:
All Raiders players are required to play Town Baseball during the spring season. There are no exceptions to this policy. Raiders is a supplement, not a replacement. In addition, we expect to be diligent with regards to players’ arm safety and pitch counts. If your player wishes to pitch, we expect him or her to prioritize those pitches for this team.

    Participation Commitment:
Due to the selective nature of the program, all players are required to make a full commitment and should prioritize baseball during the spring season.

    Williamsport Tournament Infomation

    WILLIAMSPORT ALL STAR TEAMS

This may be the MOST SERIOUS commitment and honor that WYBS offers to our highest caliber baseball players. Following the completion of the Major League season, one team will be selected to represent Wellesley Youth Baseball in the International Little League Baseball Tournament (probably better known as “Williamsport” or the “Little League World Series”).

This team is composed of players from the Major League teams who are selected based upon their superior play during the season. In order to be eligible for participation in the Williamsport tournament, players must satisfy Little League's eligibility requirements, including being either 11 or 12 years old and playing in not less than 60% of their team’s regular season games as of June 15th.

The Williamsport tournament team is expected to be announced in early to mid June at which time practices can and will commence. District 10 Pool play will begin in early July (actual dates still TBD). Depending upon the success of the teams this very serious commitment that could run into August. The Williamsport teams are separate from the U12 and U11 summer travel teams.

    Williamsport Selection Process:

    • Our Williamsport team’s selection process will begin in mid-May with an email from Majors League Managers to the players on each team to solicit interest.
    • Each Major League Manager will then nominate the most deserving players out of those who have indicated interest and a willingness to make the commitment.
    • Those candidates are distributed to all the Managers, who then vote for all the players on the ballot and rank all the players from top to bottom (excluding players on that Manager's roster).
    • A Manager cannot vote for any of his/her own nominated players.
    • The top vote getters will be assigned to the team.
    • The Williamsport Manager along with the two Assistant Coaches will then be allowed to round out their roster by adding the final two or four players to their respective rosters.
    • Before the rosters are finalized, they will be reviewed and approved by the Williamsport Commissioner and the WYBS Presidents.
    • The team will be announced on a date sometime after June 1st.

*Although we try our best to have all teams play in at least one tournament, we can't guarantee that we will find space for all.

Summer travel baseball is seriously great baseball and so much fun for the players and their families. There are frequent practices and each team will play (hopefully) in at least one tournament - usually on a weekend. U10 Jr. Raiders Travel Team

    JR. RAIDERS U10 TRAVEL TEAM

WYBS intends to run up to 2 select teams (Red & Black depending on registration numbers) comprised of the top 20 – 25 WYBS players for the incoming 10U age group to serve as a pilot program in the 23/24 season. Rosters will not exceed 14 players per team. These teams will play in competitive travel leagues during the Spring and workout collectively as a group during the Fall & Winter.

The program is designed to complement the existing WYBS seasons (fall, spring & summer) by providing kids with a higher level of interest in developing their all-around skills and knowledge of the game, as well as a desire to play with like-minded and skilled players looking for a more robust baseball experience similar to what you would find in a private club/travel baseball program.

Coaches will be volunteer, with the exception of hiring professionals to help with strength & conditioning and/or specific skill building as desired.

The goals of the program would be as follows:

    • Providing Wellesley kids an opportunity to play more competitive baseball in/around Wellesley
    • Developing a camaraderie amongst players at their individual age group and preparing them to play competitively in Middle School and High School
    • Develop their baseball fundamentals and skills, again preparing them for higher level baseball as they get older
    • Above all else, teaching them to play the game the RIGHT way on and off the field...with sportsmanship and respect for all involved
    • Winning games and championships will only be a bi-product or secondary goal of all listed above and should not be placed with equal or greater priority in any circumstance.

Jr. Raiders will not be a replacement for WYBS, and all Jr. Raiders will be required to take part in Spring WYBS baseball at a minimum (Fall ball participation is also strongly encouraged).

WYBS will hold an objective tryout in the late summer/early fall if needed to determine the enrollment and makeup of it’s Red & Black (provided there is enough interest) teams for the following year. Roster spots are not guaranteed year to year and must be earned each season. WYBS will do everything it can to accommodate any player that wishes to participate, but there may be circumstances that will require to have to cut players.

A fee of ~$1,250 will cover the costs of the Fall Scrimmages & Practices, Winter Workout & Training program, Spring Travel Teams, as well as personalized uniforms and equipment.

Additional practices will take place throughout the season, mostly with their individual WYBS teams, but some limited Jr. Raiders practices may be scheduled from time to time.

There is a possibility to enroll the team in a spring tournament if desired

Summer Schedule: June 15th – Early August

While this program will not include Summer Travel Baseball, Jr. Raiders will have the option to additionally compete in a Summer Travel league throughout the summer in the SYBL or other local league and compete in local summer tournaments, or may opt to take the summer off. The summer team may include additional WYBS players who were not part of the Jr. Raiders program, but have tried out for the Summer team.

The team will practice together periodically throughout the summer, mainly ahead of the game schedule

Summer Travel Baseball will end in early August and give everyone the rest of the summer off until we re-convene after Labor Day to start the next “season” of workouts.

The summer schedule typically results in approximately 12 games, plus 1 tournament (3+ games), and a handful (3-5) of practices
